Seminar| De-migranticisation? An interactive discussion for practitioners and researchers on thinking and doing ‘inclusion’ differently

Objective

Migration scholar Janine Dahinden (Univ. of Neuchatel, Switzerland) has called for researchers and practitioners to think reflexively about how we engage with the deeply political concepts of ‘migration’ and ‘integration’ in our work. Where do these categories actually come from? Whose interests are they (not) serving? And, in light of our responses to these questions, how might we begin to conceptualise, study and develop policies and programmes relative to ‘migration’ and ‘integration’ differently? In this seminar, we’ll together explore the challenges and opportunities that thinking and doing ‘inclusion’ differently offer scholars, policy-makers and practitioners through the lenses of real-life programmes engaging with local communities in Utrecht and Wageningen. 

This interactive discussion is sponsored by Wageningen University’s Cultural Geography (GEO) Group, Radboud University’s Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, and by OtherWise. The event is free to attend but, as we’ll be offering lunch, we need to know how many will attend. We’ll cap registration at 30 participants. This interactive discussion precedes Janine Dahinden’s Alexander von Humboldt Lecture — part of a lecture series co-organised by Wageningen University’s Cultural Geography Group and the Radboud University’s Department of Geography, Planning and Environment — later in the afternoon (17:00-18:30) on the Wageningen University campus (Gaia Building, Room 1). The lecture is public — all are welcome to attend — and there will be drinks and bites afterwards.
