Description
The Centre for Space Place and Society (CSPS) proudly presents Séverine Autesserre as the 2021 speaker for our annual lecture. She is an award-winning scholar, currently a professor in Political Science at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York. Prof. Autesserre is a prominent voice in academic debates about peace-keeping, humanitarian intervention, aid, and the framing of conflict. Having worked as a practitioner too, her work is widely read by intervenors, diplomats and academics alike. In the annual lecture she will talk about her recent book ‘The Frontlines of Peace’ (Oxford University Press) in which she discusses the well-meaning but inherently flawed peace industry. Rather than engineering peace from outside, she demonstrates that grassroot initiatives to promote peace offer more solid solutions to lasting peace.
This event is organized by the Conflict@WUR cluster of the CSPS. The Centre for Space, Place and Society brings together researchers from fours chair groups within Wageningen University & Research and beyond to advance critical-constructive scholarship within the social sciences. In investigating dynamics of spatial and social rootedness, connections, and circulations, with special attention to questions of inequality, exclusion, difference and plurality, CSPS seeks to translate knowledge into practical action in pursuit of a more just and equitable world.
