As part of our new course ‘Beyond Sustainability: Theorizing post- and anti-capitalist food futures’ (RSO58806), we are curating an evening seminar series where we will welcome scholars and activists engaged in reimagining food and society more generally (in conjunction with CSPS and Otherwise).
You are cordially invited to join us for the seminars. Please register your attendance by sending an email to Mark Vicol (Mark.Vicol@wur.nl)
Seminar #2
Date: Thursday 8th June, 17.00 – 19.00 (seminar 17.00 – 18.00, followed by drinks)
Venue: Impulse building, Speakers Corner
Speaker: Khayaat Fakier
Title: Who stirs the pot? Class, care and food sovereignty in South Africa
Abstract: The seminar looks at what it means ‘to eat from one pot’, a culture of sharing food which is ascribed to many poor South African households. I will discuss what this means materially, and from a Marxist Feminist perspective in a context where most available land is used for non-sustainable industrial agriculture, in the face of poverty, starvation and environmental damage.
