CSPS, which brings together four chair groups of critically engaged sociologists, geographers and health scholars, provides a unique platform for engagement and intervention into societal debates around food, agriculture, nature, climate and health. In particular, although CSPS member’s research cuts across diverse geographical locations, we are in a unique position to contribute critical analysis to urgent societal and environmental challenges facing the Netherlands.
At this year’s CSPS annual day we hold a cross-chair group panel discussion to showcase the diverse contributions CSPS members have to make on a ‘hot topic’ in the Netherlands: the nitrogen crisis and the more general societal debate about the future of Dutch agriculture.
The following questions will be the focus for the panel:
- How can we understand this ‘moment’ of Dutch agriculture, and the recent provincial election result?
- What are contours of the nitrogen debate and broader debate about agricultural futures in the Netherlands from the perspective of each chair group? (e.g. health, conservation, tourism, rural sociology etc).
- How can CSPS contribute to the debate about desirable and undesirable agricultural and rural futures in the Netherlands?
Join us to experience the diverse contributions made by CSPS members through the cross-chair group panel discussion. We can already share with you that Dienke Stomph and Clemens Driessen of GEO, Natalie Vinkeles Melchers-Martinez of HSO, Joris Gort of SDC and Anna Roodhof and Jolien Klok of RSO will highlight the theme from the perspective of their chair group.
After the panel discussion, you can join one of the four thematic break-out groups to explore the issues and approaches raised in each chair group pitch. Collaborate, exchange ideas, and contribute to the discussions. Or engage in a conversation about elevating the profile and contributions of CSPS in societal debates. Share your insights, brainstorm strategies, and help shape the future of CSPS.
