How to fight for climate, biodiversity and people in a difficult political climate, with Dutch parliamentarian Daniëlle Hirsch (GroenLinks-PvdA)

We know we need to drastically cut fossil fuels to tackle climate change. We know we need to find long-term sustainable ways to live with the biological diversity of life on the planet. And we know we don’t have much time. How to organize for positive change in an increasingly chaotic world? How to respond to conservative or ineffective policies that do not tackle the major socio-environmental problems the
world is facing, but seem to make things worse? What is the role of science, knowledge and students in this?

Join the Convivial Conservation Centre and Centre for Space, Place and Society (CSPS) for a meeting and discussion with DANIELLE HIRSCH, member of parliament in the Netherlands and long-term environmental strategist and activist.

Daniëlle is keen to talk to student and academics about the current political situation in the Netherlands and beyond. She will talk about her experience as a recently elected parliamentarian, the plans by the new forthcoming Dutch government and her own ideas about how to translate knowledge about biodiversity, climate change, inequality, the economy and politics into action for positive change.

With all the uncertainty, chaos and violence in the world, it is more important than ever to build powerful alliances and test out new ideas for change. Convivial Conservation is a new paradigm to tackle the biodiversity crisis in a just way: taking into account not just ecology but the fundamental pressures of our unsustainable global growth economy. Danielle will share her perspective on how to take ideas like convivial conservation forward and connect them to other movements for a better world.
