We are proud to share that Eugenie Heijgen of the Cultural Geography Group will be defending her PhD thesis titled “Hunting Landscapes: a multispecies approach to the present, past and future of hunting in the Netherlands” on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 10:30 AM.
Eugenie’s research explores the deep entanglements between hunting, landscapes, and conservation in the Netherlands. By examining duck decoys, red deer and wild boar management at the Veluwe, and pheasant stewardship, this work reveals how hunting has historically shaped our understanding of species, the wild, and conservation itself.
Through a combination of multi-species ethnography and genealogical analysis, this thesis challenges taken-for-granted ideas about nature and highlights the co-shaping of human-animal-landscape relations.
You are more than welcome to join this event. Let’s come together to support Eugenie in this significant academic milestone!
