đ
Date: 23 March
đ Time: 09:00 â 11:00
đ Location: B3041, Forum, Wageningen Campus
As part of the course Anthropology, Power and Inequality, we are pleased to welcome Julia Jouwe and Astrid Cornelisse for a guest lecture that is open to all and especially relevant for those interested in political ecology, environmental justice, and decolonial perspectives.
Julia Jouwe works with the Free West Papua Campaign (FWPC) as an activist and investigative journalist. She contributed to the documentary The Promise and was recently nominated for Media Woman of the Year. Together with investigative journalist Astrid Cornelisse, who has worked for several major media outlets, she recently launched the podcast Goudeerlijk.
The podcast revisits the Dutch historical narrative about West Papua and highlights Papuan perspectives on the regionâs past and present struggles. Juliaâs work with the FWPC connects indigenous knowledge, environmental issuesâparticularly climate changeâand contemporary movements addressing racism and justice, while advocating for the independence of West Papua.
During the lecture, Jouwe and Cornelisse will discuss activism, journalism, and storytelling as tools to challenge dominant narratives and bring Papuan voices into the spotlight.
Everyone is welcome to join.
