The CSPS Urbanscapes Cluster is pleased to invite you to a special guest lecture:
What if Brazilian History Were Told from the Favela?
Peripheral Archives, Living Histories, and Community Knowledge
by Prof. Rodrigo Bonciani (Universidade Federal de São Paulo – UNIFESP)
📅 When: July 2, 2026, 11:00–14:00
📍 Where: Leeuwenborch 0072, Wageningen Campus
This presentation introduces the Instituto Favelas and the Favelas.br project as initiatives focused on the development of peripheral archives, public history, and community-based knowledge in Brazil. It examines how physical and digital archives are created through the methodology of Digital Social Curation — a collaborative process combining archival preservation, historical research, community participation, and digital technologies.
The lecture also discusses the training of university students and community researchers, as well as the development of community museums and educational and communication projects based on archival collections and historical documents. Finally, it reflects on partnerships between universities, community organizations, and other social institutions to build collaborative and replicable networks for the production of peripheral archives and histories.
We warmly welcome students, researchers, and colleagues interested in public history, digital humanities, and decolonial approaches to knowledge production.
