Centre of Expertise for Transformative Mobilities (CENTMOB)
Rethinking how movement shapes our world — and how it can shape fairer, more sustainable futures
The Centre of Expertise for Transformative Mobilities rethinks travel, tourism, and migration in a rapidly changing world. We bring together expertise from across WUR to advance climate-responsible, environmentally sustainable, socially just, and community-led mobility futures, connecting research, education, and societal impact through collaboration with students, policymakers, NGOs, and industry.
Our work examines how mobility intersects with climate change, social justice and labour, cultural heritage and identity, and biodiversity conservation. Across these interconnected areas, we study how movement reshapes ecosystems, livelihoods, power relations, and belonging, as well as how mobilities can be transformed to support equitable, resilient, and environmentally responsible futures.
